To help meet the urgent need for more housing in the Waikato, Kāinga Ora is looking at how we could redevelop sites at:
With the strong and increasing demand for housing in Hamilton and the Waikato, Kāinga Ora has a large build programme underway to redevelop some existing state housing. By making better use of existing properties which have large sections, some of which are next to each other, we will replace these older homes with more modern, warm and dry homes.
We currently have plans to build over 850 new homes in Hamilton over the next few years. We are investigating how we can best meet the needs of our community for new homes, by redeveloping or improving all our homes in the Waikato. Homes on the following streets have had some additional work looking at what might be possible in the next couple of years.

Cambridge Road background
In 2017, Council purchased 3.7535 hectares of land at 1262 Cambridge Road with the intention of developing it for afforable housing, including housing for the elderly. As part of this project, the Council has sold a 1.4 hectare portion of the site to Kāinga Ora for the purpose of building homes for our older customers.
Kāinga Ora will now go through our internal planning processes to confirm what we can do on the site. Initial draft concepts indicate that we could build approximately 30 new stand-alone and duplex, single-storey 1 or 2 bedroom homes.
