Auckland Council has provided us with some advice about how we can make our proposed public housing development on the Marlowe Road and Bolton Street site fit better with the provisions of the Auckland Unitary Plan.
We have also received significant community feedback about our plans for the site and other development matters.
We are using that advice and feedback as we re-look at our plans, with a view to lodging a revised resource consent application later this year.
We remain committed to building public housing on the site because we have a great opportunity to make better use of the land and to provide more whānau with desperately needed homes.
We will continue to connect with the local community as part of our regular engagement activities and will share information about our revised development plans once we have finalised our changes and completed work on the revised consent application.
In the meantime work will continue on removing the homes on the site that are no longer fit for purpose and preparing the land for redevelopment.
Kāinga Ora has withdrawn its resource consent application for its proposed public housing development at Marlowe Road and Bolton Street in Blockhouse Bay.
We did this after getting advice from Auckland Council that an independent duty commissioner considered the effects on the immediate neighbourhood may be more significant than anticipated.
As our focus is on providing much-needed homes in the area as quickly as possible, we have decided the best course of action is to withdraw the existing consent so that we can review our plans.
The suggestion that our development will have more than minor effects on the neighbourhood was not expected. We have a track record in creating successful developments that meet the outcomes of the Auckland Unitary Plan and we want to continue to consistently meet these expectations.
We will carefully review our plans for the Blockhouse Bay site in order to make sure our development achieves the best outcome for the whole community. This will also provide an opportunity to consider incorporating design changes that we were already planning to make.
We are preparing the site for the clearance of homes that are no longer fit for purpose. Below is an indicative timeline of what to expect.
|Thursday 24th to Tuesday 29th August 2023||3 days||Contractors will be on site to undertake minor site preparation works, including access clearance and minor vegetation clearance. Contractors will be on site between the hours of 7am – 6pm Monday to Saturday.|
|Wednesday 30th August until last October 2023 (approx)||2 months||Contractors will be on site to deconstruct some of the homes. Contractors will be on site between the hours of 7am – 6pm Monday to Saturday.|
|Monday 4th September until November 2023 (approx)||3 months||Contractors will be on site to relocate the remaining homes. Contractors will be on site at varied times between 9pm – 3am, from Monday to Sunday.|
We are disappointed to let you know there has been a break-in at the Marlowe Rd complex. Locks on security fencing around the complex were cut, one of the empty pensioner homes was broken into and the commemorative plaque at the entrance to the complex was stolen. We have informed Police.
