Kāinga Ora has completed the first 5 of 20 homes on Wrantage and Holford Street in New Plymouth. These new warm, dry homes are a significant milestone as they are the first public housing delivered in New Plymouth in two years.
These homes have replaced four older homes that were at the end of their life. The new development has 2 two-bedroom, 1 three-bedroom and 2 four-bedroom homes to suit individuals and families. Additionally all of the new homes meet healthy homes standards and are fully insulated, with carpets, curtains, and double glazing.
Graeme Broderick, Regional Director - Taranaki, Whanganui, Manawatu says “We are so pleased to have completed these 5 new homes and to make a start in New Plymouth. It is important we build on this success. We are already working towards delivering 15 more homes on Wrantage and Holford Street which is great news for the many families in need of a home.”
Currently 405 families in New Plymouth are on the Housing register.
Local kaumatua carried out the blessings of the homes on August 18th and September 20th. The blessing were attended by Kāinga Ora Homes and Communities representatives and customers who would be moving into the new homes.
“We know first-hand through our placement team how happy our customers are to move into these homes, many were in tears when they walked through. We want many more people to have this experience and be able to have a place to call home.”
The final 15 homes are set for completion mid-2024.
