These developments are part of our nationwide housing renewals programme, which aims to replace or renovate around 2,000 older homes each year to improve the quality of our tenants’ housing.

Nelson

Eight new two-bedroom homes in Orchard Street, Stoke have replaced four ageing properties that were no longer fit for purpose.

In nearby Karaka Street, construction is underway on 12 new homes, which are due for completion in the middle of 2026. Kauri Street also has 6 new two-bedroom homes under construction.

Together, the three sites will deliver 26 new social homes across Stoke in the coming months.

“The new homes we’re building in Stoke will give our tenants warm, dry and healthy places to live that better suit their needs, now and into the future,” says Julia Campbell, Regional Director for Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast.

“We’re looking forward to handing over the keys to the new homes. Each family that moves in will have a Housing Support Manager who will help them settle in and connect with the community.”

Feilding

In Feilding, the 26 new homes are spread across three developments and include a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom layouts.

Graeme Broderick, Regional Director for Taranaki, Manawatū, Whanganui says the new builds are a welcome addition for the community.

“As we focus on improving and replacing our older homes, we’re aiming to deliver new builds more quickly and cost effectively.

“The new homes on Monmouth Street and Charles Street have been built using our standardised design plans, which allow us to build faster and more efficiently. They feature practical layouts that make the most of the available space and meet our tenants’ needs.”

“We’re grateful for the work of our construction partners, including GL Corporation Limited and Isles Construction. It’s great to now see families preparing to move in and make these homes their own.”

A fresh start for a local family

Dayton has just moved into one of the new homes in Feilding with his young family, including their newborn son.

“We previously lived in a two-bedroom home with my grandmother and five other children, so this is a huge step up from an overcrowded situation. This home gives us the space and stability we’ve long needed.”

“We’re grateful to have a warm, modern home where each child has room to grow. Our section is fully fenced and has a safe outdoor area, so the kids have the freedom to play.”

The family has also received a warm welcome from their new neighbours.

“This home feels like a fresh start after the challenges we’ve faced. We’re just really grateful for this home and the chance it gives us,” says Dayton.
