Mihi whakatau for residents at new Mt Albert complex

A few months ago we tenanted a new 36 unit complex in the central Auckland suburb of Mt Albert. The complex is a mix of smaller homes with some ground level accessible units. All up 53 residents call this place ‘home’.
With Christmas almost on the doorstep, our Community Development and Mt Roskill teams recently hosted a mihi whakatau to welcome customers into their new community and meet one another over some kai.
Manager Wellbeing and Support Jordan Seymour says it’s such a great community with residents from all parts of the world and a mix of single people, couples, young families / whānau and some older residents.
“We had a good turnout. Jason one of our customers opened with a karakia. Residents also generously brought along plates of food to share and a neighbour who lives next door and who is passionate about building her local community further also came along”, Jordan says.
“We also had a fun raffle where residents could put suggestions in our suggestion box and go into a draw to win a hamper. We decided to do this to get more new ideas about future community events we could host at the complex”.
“We received some great suggestions and no surprises in that residents really like to get together with their neighbours so we will be doing more next year. Residents also told us they loved their new Kāinga Ora home”.
Although Jordan says not everyone was able to come, the mihi whakatau was a huge success as it provided an opportunity for residents to meet their neighbours while enjoying some kai and other fun.
