The region continues to endure a drought, with the weather over the next few weeks unlikely to provide much help.

A dire shortage of rain across Auckland has seen the area receive less than half its usual rainfall for this time of year, in its catchments in the Hunua and Waitakere ranges.

This has seen the total volume of water stored dropping below 50% for the first time in more than 25 years.

Watercare, which manages Auckland’s water network, is doing everything it can to preserve the water in its dams and is also working hard to fix all water leaks as quickly as possible.

However, despite these efforts, restrictions for home and work will start from this coming Saturday
