The mauri of Waihorotiu
The Te Mātāwai site at Greys Ave runs close to Waihorotiu. The buildings have been designed to reflect the mauri or life force, the vitality of the wai and its tikanga. This energy wraps around the buildings; cleansing, healing and protecting all those who live, work and visit.
The perforated aluminium and pre-cast design take inspiration from the mauri of the water, and establishes an uplifting theme throughout the site
A more supportive approach
Te Mātāwai combines public housing with supportive services designed for people who need it most. Within this environment, residents can build positive social networks and have accessible services that will support their health, well-being and personal development.
Te Mātāwai has manaakitanga at its heart. It’s about nurturing its residents and ensuring everyone is treated with respect and kindness.
