Teaming up to provide Christmas cheer
16 December 2019
This Christmas, Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities and Wellington City Mission are teaming up to provide some of our most vulnerable tenants a Christmas or New Year treat.
Alongside the City Mission, Kāinga Ora tenancy managers will be delivering over 1,100 meal packages across the region to households in Kapiti, Porirua, Hutt Valley and Wellington City.
“We are aware the end of year holiday period can be a tough time for many kiwis” says Jackie, Kāinga Ora, Regional Manager.
“Working with the City Mission, we’ll be delivering around 500 meals in December and another around 500 meals in January to our tenants. We know that many of these tenants are likely to be alone over the Christmas and New Year period, so this is one way to make things just a little easier for them during the festive period.’’
Included with the packages is a handmade Christmas card made by children in kindergartens and pupils at local schools in the Wellington Region.
Every Christmas, Wellington City Mission helps to support hundreds of kiwis and is currently running their Christmas donation appeal.
"We’re really pleased to have this opportunity to work with Kāinga Ora,’’ says Wellington City Missioner Murray Edridge.
"This initiative is a great way to reach out and extend a little support to those who may need it at Christmas."
