In Timaru, 12 new homes will be delivered on two sites in Cain Street and at Tyne and Essex Streets. They will be a mix of one- and two-bedroom homes.

Planning for our development at Grey Road, Timaru has also continued to progress with a site layout design for up to 50 homes now refined, and consent applications expected to be lodged in the coming weeks.

Down in Invercargill, 15 new homes will be delivered on four sites across the city in Adamson Crescent, Eden Crescent, Scully Place and Selwyn Street. They will be a mix of one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom homes.

Regional Director Otago Southland and South Canterbury, Kerrie Young says Kāinga Ora is also exploring opportunities to redevelop a number of other properties across the two centres.

“Renewing our housing stock allows us to provide more new homes that are better designed and well-suited to modern lifestyles.

“By making better use of existing sites, we can enable more people to live in established areas that provide good access to schools, shops, open green spaces and other amenities.

With work on multiple developments progressing across Timaru and Invercargill, residents now have two new options for staying up to date with projects in their neighbourhood.

“We’ve created handy new interactive maps, that show people the latest details for all our developments in their area. These can be viewed on the following pages: Timaru(external link) or Invercargill(external link).

“People can also now sign up for email updates, that will provide another way for them to get the information they’re after, by clicking the subscribe link on the website page above or by emailing: engagementsouth@kaingaora.govt.nz,” says Ms Young.

The local Kāinga Ora team will be in Timaru and Invercargill this weekend at:

  • Multicultural Aoraki Festival on Saturday 2 March at 32 Arthur St, Timaru and
  • South Alive Children’s Day on Sunday 3 March at Elizabeth Park 166 John St, Heidelberg, Invercargill.

People can stop by to visit the team, hear about our projects and be connected with these new ways of staying up to date.
