Kāinga Ora workforce changes
Kāinga Ora has been consulting with our people on change processes in response to changing priorities and to achieve further savings, while maintaining the delivery of our core functions and services.
Driving this change is a need to adapt to lower volumes of work for some programmes, reduced Budget appropriation funding and the need to identify further potential savings.
This is a continuation of the work commenced in 2023 to achieve more efficiencies across Kāinga Ora, including reducing some support (or back-office) functions.
With an ongoing focus on identifying savings and efficiencies, further changes may be required.
A commitment to our people
We are committed to ensuring our people are the first to learn of any changes proposed.
We are very mindful of the impact workforce change has on our people, so we have taken a staged, considered approach enabling us to support our people through the process. Kāinga Ora has offered voluntary redundancy to people in some affected teams.
The Public Service Association was informed at each stage.
Change impacts and numbers
Consultation on change programmes has impacted the following business groups: People Governance and Capability, Urban Development and Delivery, National Services, Commercial, Urban Planning and Design, Strategy Finance and Policy, Te Kurutao Group Māori, Investment Management Office, Construction and Innovation, Government and Sector Relationships, Delivery Transformation, Place-Based Groups; Central, South Island, Auckland and Northland.
Where we have completed consultation and team numbers are confirmed, net reduction in roles since January 2024 is 540.
