Adapting our workforce as Kāinga Ora resets

Kāinga Ora is undergoing change as we reset the agency to focus on our core mission of providing and managing social housing in a financially sustainable way.

We’re going back to basics and concentrating our resources on being a responsible landlord who looks after our homes and tenants and serves communities well.

As the organisation continues to evolve, narrowing in on core functions and identifying more efficiencies and cost savings, our workforce will also be changing.

We will become a simpler, more efficient, streamlined organisation for New Zealanders.

A resized agency

Changes to our organisational structure and a resize have confirmed a net reduction of 620 roles.

This reduction impacts many business groups, with a primary focus on back-office corporate roles. Tenancy management teams are not included.

A second consultation is under way for part of our Finance group and a central North Island community engagement and partnerships team.

The new structure comes into effect on 1 July 2025.

A commitment to our people

We are mindful of the impact this has had on people so we will be making every effort to support them over this period.

The Public Service Association has been informed.
