Kāinga Ora is pleased to announce the acquisition of a 927sqm site at 132 Adelaide Road in Mount Cook, Wellington. The purchase of the site is part of the organization's ongoing efforts to address the urgent need for housing in the area.

While plans are still being developed, our initial estimates are there could be between 25 and 40 new homes on the site, which will be modern, warm, and comfortable. The homes will be designed to provide residents with a safe and welcoming environment, with easy access to schools, shops, healthcare, and transportation.

Vicki McLaren, the Regional Director for Greater Wellington Region, expressed her enthusiasm for the project and highlighted the site's potential for much-needed public housing. She noted that the location of the site is ideal, as it is close to key amenities and services that the community relies on.

The purchase of this site was made possible after the original developer, Urban Habitat Collective, was unable to proceed with their plans. By acquiring the site, Kāinga Ora can ensure that it is developed into new homes, which is essential given the pressing need for housing in the area.

Throughout the planning and development process, Kāinga Ora is committed to working closely with the community and stakeholders to ensure that their input is taken into account. The organization recognises that community engagement is key to delivering a successful project that benefits the community as a whole.

Kāinga Ora is excited to be able to provide much-needed housing in the Mount Cook area. The organization is committed to delivering a project that is designed to meet the needs of the community, and which provides a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for residents.
