New homes in Bryndwr, Christchurch are ready for whānau to move in, following the redevelopment of an 8,124sqm parcel of Kāinga Ora-owned land bordered by Clyde and Aorangi Roads and Bevin Place.
The first stage of the development has now been delivered and includes the following 18 new homes:
- 3 five-bedroom homes
- 3 four-bedroom homes
- 4 three-bedroom homes
- 8 two-bedroom homes.
The final stage will consist of 16 one-bedroom apartments and is due for completion at the end of the year. Once complete, a total of 34 new warm and dry homes will have been delivered on the site.
Canterbury Regional Director Liz Krause says Kāinga Ora is thrilled to be delivering this significant development to the Christchurch community that will meet some of the urgent need for more public housing in the region.
“Redeveloping this site and making better use of the land has enabled us to provide more homes for people and whānau in an area of the city that has good access to transport, schools, shops and recreational facilities,” says Liz.
Kāinga Ora customers will be moving into the first 18 new homes over the coming weeks.
“The whānau that will get to call this development home will be able to make use of a communal garden, a play area and plenty of recreational green space – which are stand-out features of the site.
The redevelopment is one of many planned for Bryndwr and Burnside. Over the next few years, Kāinga Ora is expected to deliver up to 202 new units across 25 sites in the two suburbs. These will replace around 130 older units that will be demolished to make way for the new homes.
