Local iwi blessed the homes at the new Brewer Street public housing complex on Wednesday 26 October, ahead of customers moving into them in stages next month.

“One of the ways Kāinga Ora is planning to increase the number of homes in Marlborough is by replacing many of our older homes in the region with more new, warm and dry homes on the same site. The Brewer Street homes are next door to a park and close to the central city, shops, schools and other services, making them a great place for individuals and families to call home.”

Blenheim company CMT Group Ltd undertook the construction of the homes, which took 14 months to complete at a cost of $5.3 million.

Construction is also underway on another 10 homes on the corner of Richmond and Charles Streets in Blenheim and is expected to be completed in March next year.

As at 30 September 2022, Kāinga Ora is planning to build an additional 73 new homes in Marlborough by June 2024. Over the past five years, from 1 October 2017 to 30 September 2022, a total of 51 homes have been delivered in the Marlborough region.
