Fresh coat of paint for thousands of our homes

More than 620,000 square metres of Kāinga Ora homes will be freshly painted this financial year as part of a $50 million programme.

Chief Operating Officer Paul Commons says this investment is part of its half a billion dollar maintenance budget that sees improvements and maintenance carried out on more than 64,000 houses nation-wide.

"Painting freshens up homes and makes living in them more comfortable and enjoyable" says Mr Commons.

"While some of our biggest spending has been in areas where we have the most homes, we have also invested in new painting in many other regional parts of the country."

In Auckland, more than $24 million is being spent this financial year while in Christchurch, nearly $6 million is planned for our tenants there.

Other metropolitan areas to benefit include Hamilton City ($1.2 million budgeted to be spent this financial year), Palmerston North ($1.7 million) and Porirua City ($2.3 million)

Regional areas don’t miss out with places like Far North District getting more than $600,000 in new fencing, $868,000 in Gisborne, $1.1 million in Rotorua, $537,000 in Wanganui City and $203,000 in the Waitaki District in North Otago.

Mr Commons says spending on fencing is important to ensure our homes are well maintained and he is thrilled that so many tenants and their whānau across the country will have new and improved fencing for their homes.
