Two new homes for Westport
25 十一月 2022
Two new, warm and dry homes will replace a flood-damaged house in Westport and are expected to be ready for people in need to move into early next year.
Kāinga Ora will place two new two-bedroom homes that are being built off-site and will be transported to Westport on the empty section at 68 Rintoul Street.
Although it is still to be confirmed exactly when the homes will be on the site, it is expected to be in early 2023.
Regional Director Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast Julia Campbell says the flood-damaged Kāinga Ora home that was previously on the site in Rintoul Street was removed in March this year.
“We recognise that there’s an urgent need for more warm and dry homes in Westport so we’re pleased to be able to double the number of homes that are on this site, which is close to shops, schools and other services.
“Given the previous home on this site was damaged in the floods, we’ve worked closely with Buller District Council to ensure these new homes will be suitable for the site. This includes ensuring the houses are raised to meet flood plan requirements.
“We appreciate neighbours’ patience as we go about this work. We’ll keep everyone informed once we have a clearer idea of when these homes will be ready to be taken to the site,” Ms Campbell says.
