Kāinga Ora rolls out more than 13 hectares of new roofing across Aotearoa/New Zealand.
"As part of our half a billion dollar maintenance budget that sees improvements and maintenance carried out on more than 64,000 houses nation-wide, we’ve spent nearly $27 million installing new roofing on our homes," Chief Operating Officer Paul Commons said.
"This has seen us install over 133,000 square metres of new roofing from Southland to the Far North District in the past financial year. This helps keep our homes secure and safe, as well as looking attractive.
"While some of our biggest spending has been in areas where we have the most homes, we have also invested in new roofing in many other regional parts of the country.
In Auckland, more than 46,000 square metres is budgeted to be installed on homes at a cost of around $8.7 million while in Christchurch, more than $1.7 million will be invested in new roofing and improvements for our tenants there.
Regional areas don’t miss out with places like Kaikoura getting more than $93,000 in new roofing and Whakatane homes receiving a roofing investment of nearly $360,000.
Mr Commons says spending on roofing is important to ensure our homes are well maintained and he is thrilled that so many tenants and their whānau across the country will have a new roof over their heads.
