New homes for whānau

We delivered 203 homes in May – from as far North as Whangarei and as far South as Dunedin. In addition, 35 homes were significantly renovated, adding at least 50 years to their lifespan as part of our retrofit programme. For the tenants moving into these homes, the impact is dramatic.

“I can’t put into words how happy and grateful and I am – it will change my life,’’ says a tenant who moved into one of six new homes opened in Levin.

“I’m really looking forward to making a home here for me and my moko,’’ says another tenant, who moved into one of eight new homes opened in Gisborne. After six years living in a caravan, she can finally ‘cook properly and sit at a table’’.

“It’s nice to be somewhere warm and have my own space again,’’ says a tenant who moved into one of 16 new Kāinga Ora homes in New Plymouth. “It just feels good.”

Some of our other delivery highlights for May include:

• Completing Whitby’s first state homes – 6 three-bedroom properties.
• Adding 8 new two-bedroom homes in Greymouth which were built off site in partnership with the Department of Corrections, supporting skills development and rehabilitation.

June promises to be another busy month of deliveries as we continue to renew our housing stock.
