To help meet the urgent need for more housing in Christchurch, Kāinga Ora is looking at how we could redevelop sites at:
Kāinga Ora has recently purchased land at 66a Quaifes Road, Halswell through the Kāinga Ora land programme. We are in the early stages of exploring how this site could be developed to provide a range of housing options to improve affordability in the area.

Kāinga Ora has purchased the 7,864 sqm site at 308-314 Blenheim Road and 66 Arthur Street in Christchurch and will redevelop it for public housing.
Amber Kiwi Holiday Park previously operated from the site, which has entrances off Blenheim Road and Arthur Street.
We expect to begin redeveloping the site in 2024 to provide a community of warm and dry homes for people in need.
We are in the early stages of planning so we don’t yet know how many public homes will be built on the site. We will keep neighbours and the local community informed as we have plans to share.

To help meet the urgent need for housing, Kāinga Ora is looking at how we could redevelop our site at 15-17 & 21 Main South Road in Sockburn (the former Workotel site). Plan have been drawn up for:
- Land size 17,090m2
- Total new homes: 110
- Rooms: 23 one-bedroom, 12 one-bedroom with room for a carer, 60 two-bedroom, 12 three-bedroom and 3 four-bedroom family homes.
- Mix of 3, 4 and 5-level apartments, townhouses, terraced housing, duplexed housing and standalone houses.
- Plans include a new tree-lined public street that will act as the ‘spine’ of the Main South Road community and connect through to Ballantyne Avenue.
- The new street will also provide access to a communal outdoor space for residents and the wider community to enjoy.
- The development will feature a range of community and residential facilities, including a community room located in the ground floor of the central apartment building, overlooking the outdoor open spaces.
- Status: Resource Consent yet to be lodged
- Expected Completion: still to be confirmed

Community engagement
We are progressing with our plans for the site and want to keep the community informed throughout this project.
Kāinga Ora has delivered a series of letters to neighbouring residents and businesses around the redevelopment site, plus emails to other stakeholders. We also held two information sessions at St Peters Church Parish Hall on 31 August and 7 September. These sessions were an opportunity for people to ask questions ahead of Resource Consent being lodged with the Christchurch City Council.
