What to do if you're affected

If your home has been impacted by the floods, please get in touch with us as soon as possible so we can arrange for your home to be assessed and connect you with any support you may need. You can do this either by calling our Customer Support Centre on 0800 801 601 or emailing aucklandrecovery@kaingaora.govt.nz

When getting in touch, please provide the following information:

  • Your full name and address
  • Where you are currently staying and the best way to contact you
  • A brief summary about the damage that has occurred and any immediate needs

Support for customers with disabilities

Support for deaf, disabled people and their whānau can be found by calling Whakarongorau Aotearoa, New Zealand Telehealth Services - 24 hours a day, everyday Text 8988 or call 0800 111 213.

This Helpline team can also help with:

  • Any general health concerns you have
  • If a support worker/carer is unavailable or hasn’t arrived
  • And to help right now, they can connect you with information and support about the recent severe weather and flooding.

The Disabled Persons Assembly(external link) also has practical resources for disabled people who have been affected by the flooding on their website.

For our Deaf Community, Deaf Aotearoa(external link) has information about the floods and cyclone translated for the Deaf Community into NZSL.

What happens next?

Our team will get in touch with you to discuss your situation and arrange a time to visit your home to assess the damage and let you know what support we may be able to offer as a landlord. If needed, we will also connect you with the right agencies and community groups to help provide support with things like food, clothing and personal items or financial support.

Remember – support is available from us and other agencies

If your life or property is at risk, phone 111 immediately.

If your home can’t be lived in

Call 0800 22 22 00 to get help with urgent accommodation or shelter, or get in touch with family or friends who can take you in.

If you need basic items

Call 0800 400 100 for help with costs like food, bedding and clothing if you have had to throw these out due to flood damage.

If you’re unable to remain in your home or your home has been damaged

Call Kāinga Ora on 0800 801 601 so we can understand and assess your needs. Once this has been done, we will let you know what practical support we may be able to provide as a landlord – for example, depending on the extent of damage, this could include a reduction in rent.

If you need to get rid of flood-damaged clothes and furniture.

Call 0800 22 22 00. Auckland Emergency Management can tell you where to take it for free, or arrange to collect it if you can’t transport it yourself.

If you need to fix or turn off gas and electricity

Contact your gas or electricity provider.
