The site originally housed three derelict buildings, which have all been replaced by 42 new modern apartments in a three-level walk-up design. 25 of the apartments were initially available exclusively to KiwiBuild buyers, with all except one sold to first home buyers.

The @340 Onehunga homes displays NZ Living’s commitment to constructing well-designed and durable buildings that require minimal maintenance. The repeatable design of the building has also been made available to other developers free of charge for use in other development projects. This collaborative approach to construction shows Kāinga Ora supporting innovation in the sector and bringing more options to market for first home buyers.

The development has impressively taken place in less than 12 months. A pace of development made only possible through the support of the KiwiBuild programme.

NZ Living is also making good progress on more KiwiBuild homes at the Fraser Avenue development on the North Shore. Part of the larger Northcote Development project, 50% of the 72 KiwiBuild apartments have already been sold off the plans and will be ready for the new owners to move into in 2020. These two developments are great examples of Kāinga Ora working in partnership to enable, facilitate and build urban development projects of all sizes.
